About Katie

Who Am I?

therapy Chicago

I’m Katie Bellamy, LCPC (she/her) - a dance/movement therapist, recovery coach, & Reiki master/teacher. I’m a traveler, advocate, dancer, & I’m continuously unlearning perfectionism & people pleasing.

I love helping people discover the healthiest versions of themselves, whether that’s through therapy, energy work, movement, workshops, or trainings.

Through my own unlearning of perfectionism and hustle culture, I’ve seen the importance of being over doing. We are so often bombarded by messages of tackling the next goal, becoming “successful,” and general busy-ness that we become balls of stress and racing thoughts.

And although so many around us are experiencing similar overwhelm and frustration, we find it hard to open up and relate.

So instead, we bury things, feel misunderstood, ignore feelings, and eventually burn out. I hope our work together will help you settle, soften, and breathe into the healthiest version of you.

I am on my own journey of thriving, not just surviving, and love supporting my clients in doing the same. In my free time, I love to dance, try new hobbies (pottery is the latest), and travel (you’ll likely spot a variety of backgrounds in our virtual sessions).

My Approach

Somatic therapy

My approach to working with and helping you is to support your unique needs.

I’m here to help you listen to your own wisdom and take aligned actions (which often means doing less and being more).

It is my belief that you have the answers — you just need some support to uncover or rediscover them.

I help people experience the safety needed to start recognizing and working through difficult emotions; to find the time to listen to their inner wisdom; and to discover the motivation to show up more fully, embodied, and grounded.

I also think it’s important to recognize that healing and trauma do not occur in a vacuum. Therapy, energy work, or trainings will likely be just one small aspect of your recovery.

Our work together may lead to other sources of support, releasing internalized shame, recognizing the impact of systemic issues on your trauma (oppression, racism, white supremacy, intergenerational trauma, to name a few), and building your sense of empowerment and self-trust.

Therapy, energy work, or coaching may look like unlearning unhealthy patterns, recognizing those patterns may have once been needed but no longer are, and grounding into new, healthier patterns.

True success is when you feel like you’re thriving, not just surviving; genuine satisfaction comes when you’re really living, not just existing.

Whether you join me in a workshop, Reiki session, training, coaching, or therapy, I look forward to witnessing and supporting your unique process from stuck to free, stagnant to enlivened, and misunderstood to connected.

We may be a good fit if you’re:

  • Having a hard time identifying or expressing your emotions

  • Feeling misunderstood

  • Curious about your substance use

  • Working through trauma

  • Bouncing between high stress and feeling checked out

  • Wanting to incorporate somatic practices

  • An expat abroad looking for support

  • You’re in need of a gender affirming letter (note, these can be completed in one session)

What’s My Experience?

I’m a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Board-Certified Dance-Movement Therapist (BC-DMT), Reiki Master/Teacher, and a certified Movement Pattern Analysis (MPA) consultant.

I completed my undergraduate degree (B.S.) at Loyola University of Chicago followed by a graduate degree (M.A.) in Dance/Movement Therapy & Counseling at Columbia College Chicago.

Throughout nearly a decade of therapy experience, I’ve worked with a broad range of populations.

During my graduate training, I worked with adults with traumatic and acquired brain injuries and children/adolescents with medical complications.

My professional experience includes working with clients in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings, facilitating individual and group therapy, working with primary substance use disorders, and supervising a program for adults with substance use and co-occurring disorders.

I’ve also worked in higher education as a Substance Misuse Prevention Specialist, providing individual and group support and advocacy and developing programming grounded in inclusivity, harm reduction, and prevention.

In addition to my therapy experience, I’ve conducted over 100 Movement Pattern Analysis profiles for executives in the workplace and have worked with companies including, Alliance Safety Council, Billtrust, Campowerment, Ferguson Enterprises, The Richardson Group, Sparks, YMCA, among others.

When providing MPA profiles, I code executives’ movements to then provide individualized, accurate feedback on how they make decisions and interact with people.

This information can then be applied to help identify strategies for improved efficiency, job selection, candidate selection, improved team dynamics, job satisfaction, and more.

I’ve been a Reiki/Master Teacher since 2019, and provide in-person and distance healing sessions as well as trainings.

While I provide Reiki to private clients, I also have experience bringing Reiki to the hospice population by volunteering at a local hospice organization.

The experience gained in this setting has been transformational and brings perspective and insight to all other facets of my work.
